Town inspecting sanitary sewers in north end next week

The Town of Fort Erie is explaining the scope of the work that some north end residents will witness next week.
Beginning Monday, the town will launch its sanitary sewer lateral closed-circuit television investigation program as part of its commitment to maintaining and improving wastewater infrastructure, says a post on special media.
Flusher and camera trucks will be active in various areas across the north end.
What is a sanitary sewer lateral?
It’s an underground pipe that carries wastewater from private property to the municipality’s main sewer.
Ownership is typically divided at the property line. Residents own the portion on their property; the town owns the portion within the right-of-way, reads the social media post.
Minimal traffic impacts are expected, and no sanitary sewer service interruptions are anticipated.
Driveway access may be temporarily affected, and the contractor will co-ordinate directly with any impacted property owners, the town says, adding that each inspection takes about one hour.
The program will help to identify infiltration or structural damage, root intrusion, evidence of deterioration, and sources of inflow and infiltration, which is intended to plan cost-effective infrastructure improvements, reduce the risk of flooding and overflows and gain sewer capacity, and lower operational costs at treatment plants.
“This supports the town’s long-term infrastructure sustainability and protects both public health and the environment,” says the town’s website.
