Fort Erie man dead, child seriously injured after Highway 3 crash

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a crash between a motorcycle and an SUV that killed a 49-year-old Fort Erie man and sent a child to hospital with “life-threatening injuries.”

OPP say the crash happened at about 5 p.m. Saturday in the eastbound lanes of Highway 3 near Wilhelm Road in Port Colborne.

Investigators believe the motorcycle struck the rear of the SUV, ejecting the driver and his passenger, according to a news release. Police have not identified the man or the child.

Officers from the Burlington detachment of the OPP Highway Safety Division responded to the crash, along with the force’s Traffic Incident Management Enforcement team.

A section of Highway 3 was closed for several hours as police investigated. It has since reopened.

Burlington OPP thanked bystanders who stopped to help after the crash.

Police say the investigation is ongoing, and they are asking anyone with information or video of the collision to call (888) 310-1122.
