Highway lane closures to slow Fort Erie commute this week

Fort Erie commuters should be prepared for a week of slow‑downs on the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) and nearby highways.
An engineering investigation will close the left lane on the QEW in Niagara Falls between McLeod Road and Lyons Creek Road from Monday evening through to late Friday morning. The province’s roadwork report lists a start time of 7 p.m. Monday and an anticipated end time around 10 a.m. Friday.
Drivers will also encounter a construction zone on the Fort Erie‑bound QEW near Mountain Road. One right lane will be closed from Sunday evening and remain shut until early Friday afternoon. Another crew will close an alternating lane on the same stretch from 9 a.m. Monday until early Friday afternoon, so traffic may be reduced to a single lane at times.
Two right lanes on the Toronto‑bound QEW will be out of service for maintenance between Eastport Drive in Hamilton and the Burlington Skyway. According to Ontario 511, that nightly closure begins at 8 p.m. Sunday and continues until 5:30 a.m. Friday.
A construction project on Highway 405 will cut traffic to one alternating lane between the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge and Stanley Avenue in Niagara‑on‑the‑Lake. Ontario 511 says the restriction begins early Monday at about 5 a.m. and is expected to remain in place until about 7 p.m. Friday.
Highway 406 will also see lane reductions near St. Catharines. The southbound lanes between the QEW and Highway 58 will be limited to one alternating lane overnight from 7 p.m. Monday until about 8 a.m. Friday.
Daytime maintenance on the same southbound segment starts at 9 a.m. Monday and is scheduled to wrap up around 3 p.m. Friday. The northbound lanes between Third Avenue and the QEW will be reduced to one alternating lane during daytime hours through the week.
Ontario 511 encourages motorists to plan ahead and allow extra time when travelling through these work zones.
