QEW ramp closures, Highway 140 work planned this week

Fort Erie commuters can expect several highway closures and lane restrictions this week, including QEW ramp closures in town and a full northbound closure on Highway 140.

According to Ontario 511, several QEW ramps in Fort Erie will be closed daily as part of construction work continuing through Friday.

The closures include the Toronto-bound on- and off-ramps at Central Avenue, the Toronto-bound and Fort Erie-bound ramps at Thompson Road, the Fort Erie-bound on-ramp at Concession Road and the Toronto-bound off-ramp at Concession Road.

Ontario 511 also lists daily closures of the Fort Erie-bound on-ramp at Gilmore Road and the Fort Erie-bound on- and off-ramps at Bowen Road.

The Fort Erie-bound off-ramp at Central Avenue is also listed for nightly construction, with all lanes closed through Saturday morning.

On Highway 140, Ontario 511 says northbound lanes are closed between Forks Road in Port Colborne and Netherby Road in Welland from Monday morning until Friday afternoon.

Ontario 511 also lists a full westbound closure on Highway 405 between Stanley Avenue and Four Mile Creek Road, also known as St. Paul Avenue or Niagara Road 100, in Niagara-on-the-Lake. That work is listed from Monday morning until Thursday afternoon.

In Thorold, Highway 58 has one alternating lane in each direction between Thorold Stone Road/Davis Road and Pine Street. Ontario 511 lists that maintenance work as beginning Monday and continuing beyond the end of the week.

There is also work listed on East Main Street in Welland between Highway 406 and Highway 140/Farr Road, with one alternating lane in each direction beginning Monday and continuing beyond this week.

Closer to Burlington, Ontario 511 lists a full Fort Erie-bound QEW closure between North Shore Boulevard and the Burlington Skyway from Monday night into Tuesday morning, with three right lanes affected and the Fort Erie-bound on-ramp from the Burlington Skyway closed.

The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation does not list any planned full vehicle closures for Welland Canal bridges this week on its infrastructure-maintenance page.

However, the Seaway says the Niagara Bridge Information System will undergo a scheduled upgrade Tuesday from 1 to 4 p.m.

During that time, FM 93.3, the bridge information website and the electronic information sign at Highway 20 near the Allanburg Bridge will be temporarily unavailable.
