Police investigate serious collision in Stevensville after altercation

Niagara Regional Police are investigating a serious collision that occurred in Stevensville early Sunday morning following an altercation at a nearby house party.

Officers from 5 District (Fort Erie) responded at about 12:30 a.m. to reports of a collision near Netherby and Winger roads, the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) said in a news release.

Police said a man left a residence in a grey Volkswagen Jetta after an altercation, while another man left on an all-terrain vehicle (ATV). Investigators allege the driver of the Jetta deliberately struck the man on the ATV before fleeing the scene on foot.

A 32-year-old Thorold man sustained serious injuries. He was treated at the scene by Niagara Emergency Medical Services and fire services personnel before being taken to an out-of-region hospital for further care.

Police said their K9 unit attended the scene but was unable to locate the suspect. Detectives from the NRPS collision reconstruction unit, 5 District detective office, and forensic services unit continue to investigate.

The driver of the Jetta has been identified and is wanted for failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
