Police holding open houses to discuss body cameras and other topics

Niagara Regional Police (NRP) are seeking public input on body cameras worn by officers to “determine how this technology fits into the future of policing in Niagara.”

A news release issued Monday explains that the NRP will be hosting sessions at six locations across the region, in each of the agency’s districts.

The NRP says it is “committed to building stronger relationships with our community by enhancing transparency, accountability, and trust in policing.”

The release describes “body-worn cameras” as modern tools “designed to benefit both officers and the public.”

The community open houses in Fort Erie (District 5) will be held at the Leisureplex on Wednesday, April 2 from 12 to 2 p.m. and from 4 to 6 p.m.

Other topics to be discussed at the session are public and officer safety, privacy and data collection, community trust and engagement, as well as transparency and accountability.

“This is your opportunity to ask questions, share your thoughts, and be part of shaping a safer, more accountable future for Niagara,” says the NRP.
