Two Fort Erie men face charges after traffic stop leads to $10K drug seizure

The occupants of a vehicle that was “aggressively” following an unmarked police car early Thursday morning in Fort Erie are facing several charges after more than $10,000 worth of drugs were seized when they were pulled over.

A traffic stop by a marked Niagara Regional Police vehicle then occurred, resulting in the driver and passenger being arrested.

A search uncovered 21.3 grams of cocaine valued at $2,550, 11.8 grams of suspected crack cocaine valued at $1,180, 7.5 grams of fentanyl with a value of $1,500, $4,767 worth of crystal meth, and 68 tablets of suspected oxycodone worth $680, the NRP said in a news release.

A 41-year-old man from Fort Erie is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, one count each for cocaine, fentanyl, crystal meth, and oxycodone. He is also charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, as well as stunting and other Highway Traffic Act offences.

A 40-year-old male, also from Fort Erie, is charged with mischief under $5,000, possession of proceeds obtained by crime under $5,000, as well as possession for the purpose of trafficking, one count for each of the four drugs seized in the vehicle.

The 40-year-old is also charged with having liquor in an open container in an unauthorized place, under the Liquor Licence and Control Act.

Both were held in custody and scheduled to attend court in St. Catharines on Thursday.
