UPDATE | Police news release stating body found in Fort Erie later changed to Port Colborne

AUGUST 26, 2024, 5:37 p.m. | UPDATE — The deceased, who was the victim of a homicide, has been identified as 38-year-old Daniel Sanvido.

AUGUST 26, 2024, 2:28 p.m. — The Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) made an error in a news release Sunday, incorrectly stating that a body was discovered in Fort Erie, said Stephanie Sabourin, manager of corporate communications.

On Saturday, police were called to the area of Forkes Road and Highway 140 following a report of a deceased male in a grassy area off the roadway.

This discovery was made in Port Colborne, not Fort Erie, and a news release was updated with the correct municipality less than 30 minutes after the initial one was sent out and published on the NRPS website.

Police said Sunday that detectives do not have information to suggest an ongoing threat to the community, but are also asking anyone with information to come forward by calling Lead Investigator Detective Sergeant Shawn Briggs at (905) 688-4111.

Sabourin also told Fort Erie Radio on Monday at about 2 p.m. that more information will be released later in the afternoon.
