Library hosts kids chess club and teen advisory group on Monday

There are two events on Monday scheduled for the younger population at the Fort Erie Public Library.

According to the library’s website, a kids chess club will be held at the Centennial branch from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. It has been running since July and holds its last session on January 27.

The teen advisory group will also meet at 6 p.m.

The group is looking for participation for people between the ages of 14 and 18 who want to earn community involvement hours, build leadership skills and help improve what the library has to offer.

The group aims to create a welcoming atmosphere that encourages teens to become life-long library users while providing library-related services to youth in a fun and friendly environment, says FEPL’s website, which also states there will be a “special guest” at the upcoming monthly meeting.

Anyone with questions can email Ryan at rrivando@fepl.ca.

Other events next week include a knitting group on January 2 at 10 a.m., as well as STEAM, which focuses on science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.

It runs every Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at the Centennial branch.

Fort Erie Ukes, a chance to learn more about the ukulele and what it’s capable of as a musical instrument, takes place at the Crystal Ridge branch on January 2 at 5 p.m. and is meant for people 18 years of age and older.
