The kids of Youth Impact at the Crystal Ridge Dream Center are raising funds to attend the Change Conference being held later this year in Toronto.
Gina Middagh, operating manager and co-founder of the Dream Center, and Destiny Sawatzky, co-ordinator of Youth Impact, spoke with Fort Erie Radio about Youth Impact and the fundraiser.
The Center runs the Youth Impact program for two different age categories:
- Mondays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. for Grades 1 to 5
- Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. for Grades 6 to 10
According to Middagh, six volunteers and three staff members make the program possible.
Change Youth will be a two-day conference. As a non-profit, the Center is depending on the generosity of the public to help the kids they serve attend.
“We’ll be staying in a hotel, having our meals and just spending time with these girls and boys that would not normally get an opportunity like this,” said Middagh.
Last year, eight girls from the group attended. This year they want to bump that up to 25.
It costs $160 to send a youth, so the Center is hoping to raise a total of $4,000.
To make that possible the Center is selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts by the dozen for $18 until August 12. Pickup will be on August 22 at 385 Derby Road in Crystal Beach, from noon until 4 p.m.
Payments can be made by e-transfer to crdreamcenter@gmail.com with “Krispy Kreme fundraiser” in the memo line.
Any additional funds raised beyond the $4,000 goal will be put into the Center’s general coffers.
Sawatzky said the conference will be a great chance for the youth to strengthen their faith.
“The conference is for their age group,” she said. “They talk about mental health. They talk about personal development and also the faith side of things.”
She added, “The kids are really being able to engage in so many different areas that will really encourage them and their own journey in life.”
