An 82-year-old Crystal Beach man has been charged after a two-vehicle collision at Highway 3 and Point Abino Road in Fort Erie left a 25-year-old driver with serious injuries.
The collision happened at 3:05 p.m. Wednesday, according to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
Police say the 82-year-old was driving a white sedan north on Point Abino Road and entered Highway 3 in the path of a grey sedan travelling west. Both men were alone in their vehicles.
“The grey sedan rolled into the northwest ditch as a result of the collision and the 25-year-old male driver sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a trauma centre for treatment,” OPP said on Thursday.
The 82-year-old driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. Police charged him with careless driving causing bodily harm and driving while under suspension.
The intersection was closed for more than three hours, as was southbound Point Abino Road at Bertie Street. Police reopened the intersection at about 6:30 p.m.
Niagara Regional Police directed traffic at the scene until the OPP had enough officers in place, a regional police spokesperson said.
