UPDATE | One deceased after Monday morning Crescent Park shed fire

UPDATE | February 3, 2026 @ 3:18 p.m.: In an emailed statement to Fort Erie Radio, Town of Fort Erie communications staffer Cole Patton confirmed that the fire occurred at 504 Fairview Road.

Five fire trucks responded to the incident plus an additional three support vehicles. The fire caused an estimated $15,000 in property damage and took less than 30 minutes to extinguish.

ORIGINAL STORY | February 2, 2026 @ 1:48 p.m.: One person died after an early morning fire destroyed a detached shed on a residential property in Fort Erie’s Crescent Park neighbourhood.

Fire Chief Mark Schmitt confirmed the fire broke out Monday at approximately 8 a.m. near the intersection of Fairview Road and Englewood Avenue, where Fire and Emergency Services found extensive damage on arrival and confirmed one fatality at the scene.

The investigation to determine the exact cause of death will take several days, with Ontario Fire Marshal investigators and Niagara Regional Police forensic officers involved.

Schmitt said the shed suffered total destruction.

“The shed is a complete loss. There was not very much left of it,” Schmitt told Fort Erie Radio.

The fire also affected the main residence on the property and a fence. Another male occupant was inside the home when firefighters arrived, according to Schmitt.
