Woman attempts U.S. entry on foot via International Railway Bridge

A woman from China was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol agents on May 25, 2024, after attempting to enter the United States on foot from Fort Erie.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported that border patrol agents spotted the woman crossing the International Railway Bridge into Buffalo on foot. The woman then entered a waiting vehicle.

Both the woman and the driver were apprehended by authorities. The woman was charged with unlawful entry into the United States and subsequently returned to Canada. The driver’s identity and charges have not been released.

“The smuggling of people and contraband across the border is a serious crime,” said Chief Patrol Agent Thomas G. Martin.

Martin added that CBP agents must remain especially vigilant “in unsafe areas such as railroad bridges and the river.”
