Grimsby porch thieves charged following Fort Erie break-in

Two Hamilton residents, Franklin Lewis (33) and Laura Jenkins (34), are facing charges after an investigation into stolen Amazon packages in Grimsby and a break and enter in Fort Erie.

8 District detectives launched the investigation in early January after reports of packages being snatched from porches. With help from public images, they identified Lewis and Jenkins as suspects. Their probe also linked Jenkins to a Fort Erie break-in involving Lewis.

On January 24th, Lewis was arrested in Hamilton and charged with five counts of theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property. The following day, Jenkins was arrested and charged with the same theft and possession charges, plus an additional break and enter count.

Both Lewis and Jenkins were held in custody and appeared in a virtual bail hearing at the St. Catharines courthouse. They remained in custody and were scheduled to re-appear in court today, January 26th.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Niagara Regional Police at 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1022300 (Fort Erie) or 1025400 (Grimsby). Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers of Niagara online or by calling 1-800-222-8477.
