Stevensville dog park officially opens Monday with ribbon cutting

Fort Erie’s newest off-leash dog park is set to officially open Monday afternoon in Stevensville.

According to the Town of Fort Erie, the off-leash dog park at Stevensville Mini Park, 2700 Ott Road, will open with a ribbon-cutting ceremony June 15 from 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The town invites residents and their dogs to join Mayor Wayne Redekop and members of council for the ceremony, noting in a Facebook post last Tuesday that town staff will also be handing out free dog toys while supplies last.

The new park includes separate areas for large and small dogs, newly planted shade trees and waste stations.

The opening comes nearly two years after the town began seeking public input on a proposed Stevensville dog park.

Fort Erie Radio previously reported the town launched a public survey in 2024 to ask residents how they would use the park and what amenities they wanted to see.

At the time, town park planner and project manager Elizabeth Latif said feedback from residents would help shape the location and design.

Fort Erie Radio later reported the Stevensville Mini Park location was selected based on available open space and public input.

The town said at the time the project would mirror the Crystal Ridge dog park, with two fenced sections for large and small dogs.

More than 100 Stevensville residents took part in the town’s survey, and town staff said the feedback showed strong support for walkability, seating and shaded areas.

The Stevensville project gives local residents another off-leash option, along with existing dog parks at Crystal Ridge Park and Sugarbowl Park.
