A new off-leash dog park is coming to the Stevensville Mini Park on West Main Street.
The Town of Fort Erie says the project is fully funded through development charges and will give local pet owners a safe and accessible space close to home. Construction has not started as of writing but officials intend to finish before winter.
The park will mirror the Crystal Ridge dog park with two fenced sections–one for large dogs and one for small dogs. Parking, shade trees and paved transition areas are planned, along with memorial benches for added seating.
More than 100 Stevensville residents took part in a survey on the project. Town staff say the feedback shaped the final design, with strong support for walkability, seating and shaded areas.
“Over 70 per cent of respondents told us they would walk to the park if it was within a 10 to 20 minute distance,” said Cole Patton, junior communications and marketing advisor for the Town of Fort Erie.
Patton told Fort Erie Radio the location of the dog park was chosen based on available open space and public input.
The Stevensville project is part of Fort Erie’s Parks and Open Space Master Plan, which aims to enhance existing parks with a range of amenities.
Once construction wraps up, Fort Erie residents will have a third local off-leash option alongside Crystal Ridge and Sugarbowl parks.
