Speed cushions added to Concession Road as part of ongoing traffic calming project

There are more reasons to slow down on a highly-residential stretch of Concession Road, including digital signs that tell drivers when they are speeding.

The high-tech signs were installed and activated in recent weeks, and earlier this month, more traffic calming measures were installed; three sets of speed bumps, which the Town of Fort Erie refers to as “speed cushions.”

The work is taking place between Garrison Road and Albany Street.

There is also a raised crosswalk and a set of vertical flexible bollards with a delineator.

In a statement to Fort Erie Radio, the town’s infrastructure services department said it has received speeding complaints about Concession Road since 2022.

“As a result, it was identified as a priority and selected as a pilot project location to test the Traffic Calming Policy, even before the policy was formally adopted,” reads the statement.

A comprehensive engagement process was conducted to involve residents in the neighbourhood, ensuring their feedback was incorporated into the planning. Council approved these measures in August.

The total cost of these measures is about $50,000. Line painting is still pending, and the remaining concrete work around the raised crosswalk is scheduled to begin this spring.

The speed limit in the area has been reduced by 10 kms to 40km/h.
