Town implementing traffic calming measures on Concession Road

The Town of Fort Erie is making an effort to slow down motorists on Concession Road, a heavily residential area.

Traffic calming measures are being put in place between Albany and Garrison roads.

This includes signage, as well as a digital display board that shows how fast a vehicle is moving when it passes.

In a statement, transportation engineering staff from the municipality told Fort Erie Radio there is “confusion” about some signage reading 30km/h, when the speed limit in the area is actually changing from 50km/h to 40 km/h.

The 30km/h signs are an “advisory speed” and the town has covered them until the full measures are in place, which also includes three sets of speed cushions, and a raised crosswalk at Baron Drive, staff said.

Rankin Construction has been retained and asphalt and concrete work will begin later this year, the town said.

The 40 km/h speed limit sign will be enforceable once it is passed through bylaw by council, staff said.

On the town’s Facebook page, there are comments from residents sharing thoughts on other roadways in Fort Erie that need calming measures.
