Ridge Cinema Lounge commemorating D-Day with free admission for veterans

June 6, 2024 will be the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

To mark the occasion, Ridge Cinema Lounge is offering free viewings of ‘Saving Private Ryan’ and ‘Patton’ at 6 p.m. for veterans and active service members.

D-Day, also known the Normandy landings, was the largest seaborne invasion in history. As part of Operation Overlord, the Allies landed on an 80-kilometer stretch of the Normandy coast that was divided into five sectors: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword.

Canadians took the lead on Juno Beach, while ‘Saving Private Ryan’ depicts actions on Omaha Beach.

In total, 160,000 troops crossed the English Channel on D-Day, with 875,000 men disembarking by the end of June.

The Allies suffered at least 10,000 casualties with 4,414 confirmed dead. German losses have been estimated at 4,000 to 9,000 men.

Tickets are available online at cinemalounge.ca or in person.
