September 13, 2024 at 10:23 AM
Niagara Parks will officially launch ‘Landscape of Nations: Beyond the Mist’, a new book showcasing Niagara’s extensive Indigenous history, at a media event later today.
The event will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Old Fort Erie, located at 350 Lakeshore Road.
The book, edited by Rick Hill and Tim Johnson, is a collaboration between the Niagara Parks Commission and Plenty Canada. It features contributions from 17 authors, as well as works by photographers, mapmakers, and artists.
The anthology offers an in-depth exploration of 13,000 years of Indigenous presence in the Niagara region, with notable historical insights, including the significant role of Indigenous forces in defending Canada during the War of 1812.
Attendees of the launch will hear remarks from the editors and authors, followed by a book signing and reception. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event.
