A pesky critter is responsible for more than 5,000 Canadian Niagara Power (CNP) customers being left in the dark Thursday morning.
The outage started at about 5:50 a.m. and affected 5,575 users, CNP’s customer service manager Kristine Carmichael told Fort Erie Radio.
“Animal contact” by a raccoon at the Gilmore Road substation is the cause of the outage, she explained in an email.
By 6:43 a.m., 3,800 customers were restored and everyone else 14 minutes after that, she said.
CNP also conducted planned power outages earlier this week in the area of Dominion and Lakeshore roads near Old Fort Erie.
