Onwards to glory: FEIA Falcons soar past King’s Christian Collegiate

Last night at 7 p.m., the Fort Erie International Academy (FEIA) Falcons women’s team played King’s Christian Collegiate (KCC). This game took place in “the nest” where Falcons fans were elated and cheering their hearts out.

This was the first playoff game of the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association (OSBA) season. It takes three games to win it all and one loss spells elimination. Last season, the Falcons fell to KCC in a crushing game that ended their season. But last night, the Falcons redeemed themselves.

FEIA started off hot and was up 10-0 within the first three minutes of play. At the end of the first quarter, the score was 24-13 in favour of the Falcons.

The Falcons got out in transition early, attacking before KCC defense could respond, resulting in several easy buckets. When defending, FEIA kept the pressure up, mounting a full-court press. Keana Foz played a great game defensively, locking up KCC’s best player, Jasmine Bascoe, which made it difficult for her to score her OSBA average of 21 points per game.

Going into the second half, FEIA led KCC by 17, with a score of 41-24. The Falcons knew they could not take their foot off the gas, embracing a message from Head Coach Handel Kipp: “Play as if you’re down 20.”

The Falcons did not let up, which led them to a well-deserved win, beating KCC 77-60.

Next up, the Falcons will take on the undefeated Crestwood Preparatory College Lions, who are the favourite to win it all. The Falcons upsetting the Lions would mean advancing to the championship game.
