FEIA Red suffered a devastating Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association (OSBA) championship loss to RCS earlier in March, which ended their otherwise perfect season. It was clear on Sunday that the Red Falcons were seeking redemption.

Early into the game, the Lions established themselves on the court defensively, blocking and stealing, and held the Falcons to a 14-point first quarter.

Falcons’ Head Coach Charles Hantoumakos gave his team a motivating message for the second quarter. “Basketball is a game of runs,” he said. “It was a bad quarter, so keep playing with confidence.”

Brayden Jackson took that message to heart and stepped up for his Falcons squad in the second quarter. He made a difficult layup to cut the deficit to just three points.

Marial Akuentok did a great job on the glass, helping his team score second chance opportunities. But a buzzer-beating three from the Lions ended the first half with the score 37-29 in their favour.

Throughout the third quarter, both teams traded buckets. Char Yiey hit a three that cut the deficit down to six. Riding that momentum, Ishan Sharma hit a three to tie the game at 49.

Nonetheless, the Lions restored their lead to the tune of six points.

Heading into the final quarter, the Falcons were down 57-51. And with just six minutes left to go, RCS increased that lead to 11 points.

Christopher Kumu responded with back-to-back buckets for FEIA Red, and the crowd offered the Falcons their support by chanting, “Defense!”

After a successful Falcons steal, Brayden Jackson made a layup for the lead. With grit and maintained composure, FEIA Red ultimately won the game by five points. The final score was 69-64.

Although the Falcons lost to this squad in the OSBA finals, they found much-needed redemption in this victory. FEIA Red ended their season on a high note, named 2024 national champions.
