Meteors win big despite ejections in heated battle with Falcons

The Fort Erie Meteors skated to a convincing 4-1 victory over the St. Catharines Falcons Wednesday night, extending their lead in the best-of-seven series to 2-1.

The crowd of over 1,000 fans at the Fort Erie Leisureplex witnessed a bloodbath of a game with strong rookie performances and almost perfect penalty-killing from the Meteors.

The future of the Meteors shone brightly in the first period, with rookie forwards Hunter Coley and Liam Beamish lighting the lamp on power plays. Kyle Adamo picked up assists on both goals.

Sam Tonelli added another goal for the Meteors early in the third period, but his night took a turn later when he was ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Tonelli wasn’t the only one shown the door, as the game turned nasty with a combined total of six players ejected, including Zac Mizzi, Owen Penny, and Falcon Luke Gualtieri for a fight halfway through the third.

Despite the penalties, the Meteors kept their cool and outshot the Falcons 28-23. This win puts the Meteors in a strong position to take control of the series, with game four scheduled on Good Friday in St. Catharines.
