Meteors thank community for support following conference finals loss

Another hard fought season has come to an end for the Fort Erie Meteors.

The local Jr. B squad lost to the St. Catharines Falcons on Saturday, ending the best-of-seven Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League eastern conference finals.

St. Catharines won on Friday, which meant the Meteors needed to win on Saturday to force game seven.

The game was tied 1-1 after two periods but St. Catharines netted three in the third period to win 4-1.

Friday’s loss also ended with the same final score in favour of the Falcons.

Playoff games on home ice at the Leisureplex have welcomed close to 2,000 fans on some occasions.

On social media, the Meteors thanked Fort Erie for the support, calling it an “amazing community,” and a destination for junior hockey players.

Last season, the Meteors won their first championship since 1979.
