Masquerade at Evermore Charcuterie to raise funds for neighbours

Evermore Charcuterie Bistro is inviting the community to celebrate its first anniversary in Crystal Beach with a masquerade evening that doubles as a fundraiser, aiming to support neighbours facing food insecurity.

Evermore is hosting a semi-formal event October 18 at 7 p.m. with proceeds helping the Crystal Ridge Dream Center, which provides food and services to between 250 and 500 residents every week.

Amanda O’Brien, chef and owner of Evermore, told Fort Erie Radio that the decision to turn the anniversary party into a fundraiser came naturally.

“If we don’t support each other, then everything just falls, right? There are so many people in need,” said O’Brien. “Hopefully this brings awareness to everybody and they get the support that they need.”

O’Brien said she was surprised by the scope of food insecurity in Crystal Beach and the reach of the Dream Center’s programs, which says on its website it has provided more than 71,000 meals to local residents since January 2022.

“I didn’t know the community was that in need,” said O’Brien.

The masquerade also marks a milestone for Evermore, which has spent the past year establishing itself as more than a charcuterie shop. O’Brien recently updated her branding to highlight the business as a full bistro with a daily changing menu featuring locally-grown food.

The past year was not without hurdles. Opening during the slower winter season was a risk, but O’Brien said it helped the restaurant build momentum before summer.

“Opening in the off season is a big no-no for businesses, but I wanted to get my clientele and find my footing before the summer season came. And it worked,” she said.

Tickets for the masquerade are $65 and include a mask, appetizers, grazing table and live music.

Looking ahead, O’Brien hopes the masquerade will spark conversation about Crystal Beach neighbours helping neighbours and further grow Evermore’s presence in the community at 4086 Erie Road.

Those unable to attend can still support the cause by donating directly to the Dream Center.
