Group in Buffalo inviting Fort Erie to rally against ‘foolish’ tariffs

“Dangerous and foolish.”
This is how a grassroots group from Buffalo, N.Y. is describing tariffs being imposed by U.S. president Donald Trump ahead of a rally they will be holding on the American side of the border to show solidarity for their Canadian allies.
On Wednesday, April 2, the day Trump has said that his tariffs on Canadian automobiles will kick in, concerned citizens will peacefully assemble on the Shoreline Trail Bridge in Buffalo at 5 p.m., to express their concern about the new border taxes, which many believe will have negative impacts on economies on both sides of the border.
The group is also inviting Canadians to come out at that same time. An ideal location in Fort Erie that sits across from where the concerned Americans are gathering would be the parking lot on Niagara Parkway south of the Peace Bridge, spokesperson Michael Powers told Fort Erie Radio on Wednesday.
“We’re stronger together,” he said, adding the trade war started by Trump is “kind of dumb.”
Those assembling on the other side of the Niagara River are concerned American citizens.
“We are your neighbors in Buffalo, appalled by unnecessary and entirely avoidable deterioration of our close relationship with Canada,” says a news release about the event, which has been dubbed ‘Elbows Up for Canada.’
“We stand in opposition to the ginned-up tariffs and the dumbest trade war ever, along with all the talk of making Canada the 51st state,” the news release continues.
“Canada is its own sovereign nation, and has long been one of America’s closest allies, repeatedly giving aid from 9/11 to the recent California fires among countless other examples. Canadians came to help, without leaving a bill,” the group says.
The tariffs “will increase the cost of just about everything for everyone,” the group states.

My friends in Canada, I’ll be there.
