Church on the Lawn welcomes locals and vacationers for Sunday finale

When Windmill Point Church started its Church on the Lawn service in 2020 it was because of COVID-19 restrictions and people not being allowed to gather indoors.

Those rules are in the past, but the church on Stonemill Road in Ridgeway is looking to the future with this unique, weekly event on Sundays.

“It started as a bad thing but turned out to be a good thing,” said Pastor Aaron Noake.

The first year involved a small tent, but services this year are covered by a much larger one and have been bringing out an average of 75 to 80 people each week.

“A lot of times, in the summer months, church attendance usually drops,” Noake said, also noting that the church welcomes many vacationers who are visiting the area each week.

“It’s been a really good thing,” he said.

The event runs weekly starting in June, said Noake, adding that this Sunday will be the outdoor finale for the season before service moves back indoors at 11 a.m. on September 1.
