Fort Erie Radio presents the COPE Christmas Cash Split, an online fundraiser for the food bank

Fort Erie Radio is thankful to everyone who has been supportive since the online news platform and internet radio station launched earlier this year, and now it’s time to give back.

Starting Monday, a 50/50 lottery benefitting Community Outreach Program Erie (COPE) will go live, an endeavour that Fort Erie Radio program director Brent Jones expects will be a massive success and create a nice windfall for the winner who will be drawn a few days before Christmas.

“I’m fully expecting we’ll be awarding a prize well into five figures,” said Jones, adding that it will also be an incredible boost for COPE, one of Greater Fort Erie’s food banks.

The 2024 COPE Christmas Cash Split will run from December 2 at 12:01 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on December 20. The draw will be conducted off-site at 9 a.m. and the winner announced on air shortly thereafter.

A tracker has been installed at forterieradio.ca, which allows users to view the current jackpot amount in real time:

The fundraiser is entirely online and open to anyone 18 and over in Ontario, and is licensed by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).

There are unlimited raffle tickets to purchase and the draw will be done by a random number generator, which means listeners can buy one ticket, or they can buy 500 tickets.

“And the more you buy, the less each ticket costs,” said Jones.

Here’s a breakdown of ticket costs:

  • 1 ticket for $10
  • 10 tickets for $50
  • 25 tickets for $100
  • 100 tickets for $250
  • 250 tickets for $500

Fort Erie Radio is offering some early bird raffle prizes next week as well, courtesy of some generous donors in the community.

“People who buy their raffle tickets early can take their purchase confirmation email and forward it to hello@forterieradio.ca, and this Friday we’ll do a draw to give away some gift cards,” said Jones.

There will be draws for $25 to Domino’s, $50 to the Manic Maker, and more to be announced.

“This can, and I’m absolutely expecting it will, be huge,” said Jones.
