Fort Erie vs. Port Colborne: Meteors seek sweep, Sailors aim for upset

The Fort Erie Meteors are gearing up for a playoff run, kicking things off tomorrow night at the Fort Erie Leisureplex against the Port Colborne Sailors. The puck drops at 7 p.m., and tickets are $12 with discounts available for children, students, and seniors.

The Meteors finished the season strong, sitting comfortably in second place in the Golden Horseshoe Conference (GHC) with a total of 74 points. The Sailors wrapped up their season in last place with only 29 points.

The series should be especially interesting for Meteor Sam Tonelli, who played his first 29 games of the season for Port Colborne, putting up an impressive 28 points in that time. In his 17 games for Fort Erie, Tonelli managed another 12 points this season.

The Meteors boast an impressive roster, featuring not only Tonelli but another three players who were recently selected for the GHC All-Star Team: Captain Rylan Masterson, assistant captain and lead point scorer Kyle Adamo, and goalie Charlie Burns.

Rookies Liam Beamish and Hunter Coley also received recognition, joining the All-Rookie Team. Beamish burned bright this season, putting up the most goals by any rookie in the GHC with a total of 27.

The Sailors have a rookie wonder of their own in PJ Alexander, who scored 11 goals and 18 assists in 47 games this season.

The Meteors head into this playoff series heavily favoured to win; BP Sports Niagara predicts a sweep for Fort Erie. The Meteors dominated the Sailors throughout the regular season, winning six out of their seven matchups.
