Art Hub providing affordable winter art classes for kids 4 to 12

Fort Erie families can sign up for four Saturday morning art sessions for children ages 4 to 12 at Fort Erie Community Preschool in Crescent Park.

The sessions run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on January 17, 24, 31 and February 7 and cost $80 for all four classes.

The program is run by Fort Erie Art Hub, a local project co-founded by Patti Willick, a registered early childhood educator.

“We just saw that there was a need for it,” Willick told Fort Erie Radio, who added that she raised her family in Fort Erie.

Part of Willick’s inspiration to provide these art classes was to give children an alternative to after-school sports, since children’s art classes aren’t as common.

“One of our philosophies is just letting the children have a space to be creative and to be themselves and to work at their own time,” said Willick.

The sessions are held at the preschool located at 1495 Evelyn Avenue, in a building known many years ago as the Elise English School.

Each class costs $20 for two hours and includes all materials, Willick said, with the option to ask about individual sessions.

“We’re basically not paying ourselves,” said Willick.

Each winter block class includes themes like watercolours and winter trees, with activities adjusted to children’s skill levels.

Families can email forteriearthub@gmail.com to register or ask about upcoming programming for youths and teenagers.
