Fort Erie man arrested following break-and-enter investigation

A 44-year-old Fort Erie man, Greg Nathaniel Tarantini, has been apprehended by Niagara Regional Police (NRPS) detectives in connection with multiple break-ins and thefts at local commercial properties. Tarantini, who was previously wanted by authorities, was located and arrested on August 14, 2024.

The arrest was made around 2:45 p.m. in the vicinity of Douglas and Aberdeen Streets. The operation involved 5 District detectives, uniform officers, and the K9 unit. Following his arrest, additional suspected stolen property was discovered and seized.

Tarantini has now been charged with:

  • 11 counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000,
  • one count of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000,
  • and one count of break and enter to commit an offence at a place other than a dwelling house.

The charges follow a search warrant executed on August 8 as part of the ongoing investigation into the thefts.

Tarantini is accused of breaking into three commercial properties between June 27 and August 6. Reports indicate that the suspect returned to two of the locations, resulting in a series of five incidents.

Items stolen during these break-ins include power tools valued at approximately $1,500, copper wiring worth around $4,000, candy estimated at $300, and $1,100 in cash from vending machines. The total damage from the incidents is estimated at nearly $10,000.

Tarantini was held in custody and is awaiting a video bail hearing at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines yesterday.

The NRPS is continuing its investigation and urges anyone with additional information to contact them at (905) 688-4111.
