Fort Erie drivers to face lane closures on QEW, Highways 405 and 406

Fort Erie motorists can expect several construction zones on highways leading into and out of Niagara this week. Ontario 511 is warning that a handful of lane restrictions and ramp closures begin Monday and will continue through Friday.

On Highway 405 near the U.S. border, one alternating lane will be closed for westbound traffic between the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge and Stanley Avenue in Niagara‑on‑the‑Lake.

The closure is scheduled to start just after midnight on Monday and will remain in place until late Saturday, with workers maintaining traffic flow using flaggers. Drivers headed toward the Queenston-Lewiston crossing should be prepared for stops and delays.

Construction on the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) will further reduce capacity near Niagara Falls.

Two right lanes will be closed on the Fort Erie‑bound QEW between Mountain Road exits starting Monday evening at 7 p.m. The restrictions will run overnight through the week and are expected to lift early Saturday morning. Ontario 511 advises travellers to slow down and merge early in this area.

The QEW will also be narrowed between Townline Road in Fort Erie and Baker Road in Niagara Falls. Starting Monday at 9 a.m., one lane will alternate in each direction along this stretch for maintenance, with work expected to continue until Friday afternoon. Traffic will be controlled by workers, so motorists should be ready to stop.

Commuters using Highway 406 in St. Catharines will see an alternating lane closure on the southbound lanes between the QEW and Highway 58. Work is scheduled to begin Monday evening at 7 p.m. and will carry on overnight through the week, wrapping up early Saturday. This restriction may cause delays for drivers heading toward Welland.

Ontario 511 says times and dates may change as crews respond to weather and working conditions. Drivers are encouraged to consult the province’s traveller information service and plan for extra travel time while work is underway.
