Fort Erie commuters to face more lane closures this week

Fort Erie commuters face a fresh round of lane restrictions next week as provincial highway crews continue an array of repair projects in Niagara.
Ontario 511 says two investigations in Grimsby will periodically close the right lane on the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) Toronto‑bound on‑ramps at Maple Avenue and Ontario Street. The work is set to begin at 9 p.m. Monday and will resume nightly until 5 a.m. Friday.
Nearby, a construction project on the Fort Erie‑bound side of the QEW will reduce traffic to two alternating lanes between Maple Avenue and Bartlett Avenue from 9 p.m. Monday until 5 a.m. Saturday.
Drivers should also be prepared for a three‑night closure of the QEW off‑ramp at Bertie Street/Thompson Road in Fort Erie. That ramp is scheduled to shut down at 6 p.m. Tuesday and reopen by 6 a.m. Friday.
Further south, a long‑term construction job between Ridgemount and Concession roads will continue through the week, keeping the highway narrowed to a single alternating lane.
In Niagara Falls, crews will close one right lane on the Fort Erie‑bound QEW between Mountain Road and Mountain Road each night beginning at 7 p.m. Monday and finishing at 8 a.m. Friday.
A separate project is affecting traffic between Highway 420 and McLeod Road; one lane has been closed since earlier this month and is expected to reopen Wednesday morning.
Elsewhere, Highway 140 will be closed in the southbound direction between Buchner Road and Ridge Road in Welland from 9 a.m. Tuesday until 3 p.m. Friday. Motorists will need to detour via local routes.
A series of overnight lane closures is planned along Highway 406 in St. Catharines and Thorold.
Northbound traffic will drop to one lane between Decew Road and Sir Isaac Brock Way from 10 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Friday.
On Thursday night a left lane will also close between Third Avenue and the QEW in St. Catharines.
Southbound drivers will encounter right‑lane closures between Highway 20/Canboro Road and Holland Road and between Third Avenue and First Street each night from 7 p.m. Monday to 8 a.m. Friday.
Another maintenance project will alternate lane closures on the southbound highway between the QEW and Highway 58 nightly from 8 p.m. Monday to 8 a.m. Friday.
Highway 58 will see several disruptions.
Northbound drivers near Thorold will lose the left lane each night from 10 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Friday and the right lane each night from 10 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Friday.
In Welland, all lanes on the northbound route between Forks Road/Niagara Road 23 and Kleiner Street will close from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
Southbound motorists should expect a right‑lane closure between Highway 406 and Thorold Stone Road/Davis Road from late Sunday night until early Friday morning.
Drivers using Highway 405 through Niagara‑on‑the‑Lake should anticipate delays as well. Ongoing bridge work between the QEW and Stanley Avenue has reduced the roadway to one alternating lane in both directions. This project is slated to continue until later in October.
