Fort Erie commuters face lane restrictions, ramp closures this week

Fort Erie commuters should be prepared for several construction-related delays as work continues on regional highways this week.

A recurring construction project on Highway 140 will restrict traffic to one alternating lane between Townline and Forks roads beginning Monday at 6 a.m. The closure, according to Ontario 511, is scheduled to remain in place until late Friday afternoon. Motorists heading south along the Welland-Port Colborne route should expect congestion.

In Welland, Highway 58 will be down a lane on its northbound side between Forks Road/Niagara Road 23 and Highway 58A/Humberstone Road. Ontario 511 says the right lane will be closed from Monday morning until late Saturday morning. The extended closure will likely slow traffic through the construction zone.

The province is also closing a lane on the northbound on‑ramp to Highway 406 at Woodlawn Road in Welland. That alternating lane closure begins Monday at 6:30 a.m. and is not expected to be lifted until the following week. Motorists should prepare for delays merging onto the highway.

Lane restrictions continue on the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW). In Fort Erie, the off‑ramp to Bertie Street/Thompson Road has been closed since late October and will remain closed until next week. Nearby, a long‑term project between Ridgemount Road and Concession Road continues to reduce Toronto‑bound traffic to one lane.

Drivers heading through Niagara Falls will encounter overnight lane reductions on the QEW at Mountain Road, with the right lane closed every evening from Sunday to early Saturday morning.

In Grimsby, the on‑ramp to the QEW at Casablanca Boulevard will be closed Wednesday night from 9 p.m. to early Thursday morning for maintenance.
