Fort Erie commuters face Highway 405 lane reduction, QEW maintenance

Fort Erie drivers will encounter a pair of lane restrictions on the main corridors through the Niagara region this week.
Ontario 511 reports that crews will begin recurring construction on Highway 405 westbound at the border in Niagara‑on‑the‑Lake early Monday.
One alternating lane will be closed between the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge and Stanley Avenue from just after midnight Monday until late Friday night, meaning traffic will take turns passing through the work area.
Motorists travelling to or from the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) should anticipate short delays and watch for flaggers guiding vehicles through the single open lane.
Drivers will face an additional disruption on Tuesday when maintenance crews shut the left lane of the QEW Fort Erie‑bound between Seventh Street in St. Catharines and Glendale Avenue in Niagara‑on‑the‑Lake.
According to the future roadwork listing, the daytime closure runs from 8 a.m. until about 5 p.m. on Tuesday. During those hours, QEW traffic heading toward Fort Erie will be reduced to one through lane, and travellers should leave extra time when crossing the Garden City Skyway.
There are no other planned lane or ramp closures on Highways 406, 58, 140 or 3 in Niagara planned for this week.
