Firearms seized at Peace Bridge as CBSA highlights border enforcement

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says it officers seized multiple firearms at the Peace Bridge in Fort Erie as part of ongoing efforts to prevent illegal weapons from entering the country.

In a post Thursday on X/Twitter, the CBSA said officers at the Peace Bridge and the Ambassador Bridge ports of entry seized 10 firearms from U.S. residents over a five-day period.

The Peace Bridge, which links Fort Erie with Buffalo, N.Y., is one of Canada’s busiest land border crossings and a key commercial trade corridor between Ontario and the northeastern United States.

According to the official Government of Canada website, the CBSA is responsible for enforcing customs and immigration laws at ports of entry and preventing prohibited goods, including firearms, from entering the country.

Travellers entering Canada are required to declare all firearms and weapons. Failure to do so can result in seizure, fines and criminal charges.

Federal statistics published on Canada.ca show that CBSA officers in the Southern Ontario region–which includes Fort Erie–regularly intercept firearms and other prohibited weapons at land crossings.

The Peace Bridge will mark its 100th anniversary in 2027, celebrating its longstanding role as both a trade gateway and a frontline security checkpoint between Canada and the United States.
