UPDATE | Niagara police officer injured during Fort Erie domestic violence call

JANUARY 19, 2025 @ 2:28 P.M. | UPDATE — The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) will investigate an incident that occurred in Fort Erie on Saturday, leaving a Niagara Regional Police officer injured.
Asked about the nature of the officer’s injuries, Niagara Regional Police spokesperson Constable Luke Lindley said no further information will be released due to the SIU investigation.
The NRP is “prohibited from releasing further details.”
The officer suffered what police describe as serious injuries. It is unknown whether a weapon was involved at this time.
It also appears the suspect was injured, as police said in a news release that the suspect was arrested on scene and transferred to an area hospital in stable condition.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
JANUARY 18, 2025 @ 8:17 P.M. | ORIGINAL STORY — A Niagara Regional Police officer was injured while responding to a domestic violence call in Fort Erie on Saturday afternoon.
According to a statement posted by the Niagara Regional Police Service on social media, the incident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. in the area of Spears Road North and Gilmore Road.
The injured officer was transported to an out-of-town hospital, where they are listed in stable condition. Police confirmed that the officer’s family has been notified.
One suspect is in custody, said the post.
No further details have been provided by police at this time. Police said more information will be released as it becomes available.
