FEIA women’s OSBA journey cut short by Crestwood Lions

Last night, the Fort Erie International Academy (FEIA) Falcons women’s team took on the undefeated Crestwood Prepatory College Lions in the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association (OSBA) semifinals. This matchup was the fan favourite battle that everyone wanted to see.

These teams recently played each other in February in Crestwood’s home gym. This hard fought battle ended with the Lions defeating the Falcons 90-80. Despite the loss, the Falcons were content with their performance and looked to build upon it.

Before the game, OSBA season awards were presented. FEIA had two players receive OSBA All-Star certificates. Cearah Parchment was named to the first team and Nyadieng Yiech was named to the second team.

This semi-final game tipped off at 5 p.m. The Lions grabbed a quick lead, scoring two baskets in under 15 seconds. The Falcons trailed early with a first quarter score of 28-11.

After a challenging second quarter, the score was 39-25 in favour of the Lions.

The message to the Falcons at halftime was to play hard and give it their all no matter the outcome. Anastasija Veljovic took this message to heart in the third quarter and started heating up for her Falcons squad, helping to bring some momentum to the team.

Starting the fourth quarter, it was only a nine point game, with the Lions up 60-51. Sadly this momentum did not stay with the Falcons, as the game slowly drifted away from them. FEIA’s OSBA season ended to Crestwood, losing the match 83-64.

Kamora Morgan and Cearah Parchment combined for 36 points for FEIA with 18 each. Crestwood All-Stars Agot Makeer and Toby Fournier combined for 40 points and both put up double-double stat lines.

The Falcons women’s season is not completely over, however, as they still hope to win two championships across the border.
