Both the men’s and women’s teams at these two schools have been ongoing rivals for years.

The stands were full with both Falcons and Lions fans, adorned in red or blue. All FEIA athletes were in attendance, as well, and made their voices heard. Some even brought drums to add to the noise.

The Falcons had tons of support this matchup and aimed to defeat the squad they fell short to last year.

This long-awaited game tipped off at 7 p.m. The Falcons obtained an early lead, outscoring the Lions by four in the first quarter. The second quarter was much more competitive as both teams scored in excess of 20 points. The score at halftime was 39-37 with FEIA Red still in the lead.

The score went back and forth in the second half; neither team could obtain a double digit lead. Heading into the fourth quarter, it was 60-54 in favour of the Falcons, but this last quarter played out differently.

The Lions, led by Peter Bandelj who went 4-4 from beyond the arc, fought hard and outscored the Falcons 19-12 in the final quarter. Bandelj made a three-pointer with a minute left to go, which was the most crucial shot of the game. He finished the play with a made free throw, providing his team with a four-point lead.

Down by just one point with time running out, FEIA Red took the final shot of the game. Falcons star Ishan Sharma attempted for three but fell short. Overall, Sharma shot 5-7 from beyond the arc and had an impressive 25 points.

With this missed shot attempt, the Falcons lost the game 73-72.

This was a heartbreaking loss for a team with an otherwise perfect record for the season, but FEIA Red plans to end the year on a positive note with two more tournaments ahead.
