Bay Beach again deemed unsafe for swimming
August 17, 2025 at 5:06 AM
Just one of four Greater Fort Erie beaches is posted unsafe for swimming, according to the latest Niagara Region Public Health water quality results.
As of August 14, Bay Beach was deemed unsafe due to elevated E. coli levels.
Bernard Avenue Beach, Crescent Beach and Waverly Beach were last tested on August 12 and are safe for swimming.
Niagara Region Public Health monitors more than 19 public beaches across the region from Victoria Day through Labour Day. Beaches are posted unsafe when tests show unacceptable levels of E. coli bacteria.
Officials caution that results may not reflect same-day conditions, as laboratory testing can take more than a day. Swimming is also discouraged after heavy rainfall, in wavy or cloudy water, or when large numbers of birds are present.
Exposure to unsafe water can cause stomach illness, rashes, and infections of the eyes, ears, nose and throat.
Daily beach water quality results are posted on the Niagara Region Public Health website.
