Fort Erie man with child pornography conviction arrested at Peace Bridge

A Fort Erie man with a previous conviction related to child pornography faces drug charges after attempting to cross the Peace Bridge into the United States.

According to a story from WKBW, a Buffalo TV news channel, the man was was identified by a U.S. passport card he presented when attempting to enter the U.S. on Friday morning after being picked up by a driving service in Fort Erie.

He told U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers that he was planning to take a bus from Buffalo to California, the WKBW article reads.

It also states that a customs agent discovered a “lookout” for the man that called for a basic examination of any electronic devices he might be carrying for child sexual exploitation material.

The article also says a Canadian criminal history search indicated the suspect was convicted of possession of child pornography in St. Catharines last June.

According to a May 2023 news release from Niagara Regional Police, a man with the same name was charged with two counts of possession of child pornography and accessing child pornography.

During a secondary screening, authorities inspected his luggage and found four cellular phones, nine hard drives, a laptop and a monitor. Inspectors say the man also had a personal cellphone on his person.

Officers say they also searched a second bag which contained methamphetamine and fentanyl.
