Fort Erie man charged in St. Catharines fraud case

A Fort Erie man has been arrested and charged following a fraud investigation in St. Catharines, according to a Niagara Regional Police news release.
Uniform officers responded to a report of fraud at a commercial business in St. Catharines near Geneva Street and the North Service Road around 7:30 p.m. on March 6.
Police say a suspect entered the store and selected various items valued at more than $5,000. Multiple payment attempts were made, and it became apparent that the suspect was attempting to defraud the business.
The case was assigned to detectives from the Niagara Regional Police Service fraud unit for further investigation.
A 53-year-old Fort Erie man was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the incident. He is charged with two counts of uttering a forged document and one count of fraud over $5,000.
The accused was scheduled to appear at a bail hearing Tuesday via video link at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.
