Evolve Sports Centre closed after grand opening three months ago

A local business that opened about three months ago to offer a variety of recreational activities has called it quits.

Evolve Sports Centre held its grand opening in mid-January, welcoming invited guests like local politicians to the site on Gilmore Road.

It offered roller skating and a number of other indoor sports.

But its owner, Ray Calleja, closed the operation last month because it wasn’t seeing the amount of customers he was hoping for.

This made it difficult to pay the rent, Calleja told Fort Erie Radio, claiming he lost $80,000 in the process.

But he’s thankful for people who did patronize the sports centre during its brief tenure.

“I’d like to thank the people that supported me from Fort Erie and other cities,” he said.

And it wasn’t a lack of effort that played a factor in going out of business.

“I tried really hard and put my heart and soul into it,” he said.

The Evolve Sports Centre was located at 33 Gilmore Road, a building that housed a Beer Store many years ago.
