Police seeking occupants of vehicle seen near Ridgeway townhouse fire

Two arrests have been made in connection to a fire that destroyed three under-construction townhouses in Ridgeway on the weekend, but Niagara Regional Police (NRP) are seeking assistance from the public regarding a vehicle seen in the area at the time of the incident.

The fire occurred Saturday morning and on Thursday, the NRP issued an additional news release saying that detectives are requesting to speak with occupants of a black SUV that was in the vicinity of Whispering Woods Trail and Butternut Crescent at about 6:40 a.m.

“Detectives believe that the individuals in the vehicle may have valuable information that could aid in the investigation and encourage them to come forward,” said Thursday’s news release.

On Monday, police said a 36-year-old man from Fort Erie and a 45-year-old man from St. Catharines were arrested and charged with a number of offences related to the incident.

Surveillance footage obtained by Fort Erie Radio, provided by Blythwood Homes, the developer behind the residential build, showed two individuals walking from the area moments before the units were engulfed in flames.

Damage caused by the fire is estimated at $1 million, said Fort Erie Deputy Fire Chief Chris Smith.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the investigating officers by calling (905) 688-4111.
