Firearm seized at Peace Bridge border crossing

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized a firearm at the Peace Bridge border crossing following an incident involving a commercial vehicle operator.

On March 11, CBP officers stopped a commercial truck driven by a 34-year-old U.S. citizen at the border crossing between Buffalo, N.Y., and Fort Erie.

The driver, who was working as a local delivery driver, mistakenly arrived at the Canadian border, where he was denied entry and returned to the United States. He declared possession of a firearm and was directed to a secondary examination.

During the inspection, officers found an Amadeo Rossi .38-calibre revolver and five rounds of ammunition. Further checks revealed the man, a Florida resident, had a prior felony conviction prohibiting firearm possession.

“Our CBP officers demonstrate their resolve to uphold our priority border security mission every day,” Buffalo Port Director Gaetano Cordone said in a statement. “This apprehension underlines our commitment to work alongside our law enforcement partners to keep our communities safe.”

CBP officers took the man into custody and processed him before transferring him and the firearm to the Buffalo Police Department.

He faces a felony charge for criminal possession of a weapon.
