Trivia night at GFESS will raise funds for conference of student leaders

The community is invited to test its knowledge at an upcoming trivia night in support of a student leadership conference being hosted at Greater Fort Erie Secondary School (GFESS).

Taking place on January 17 from 6:30 to 10 p.m., the trivia night will have tables of eight available for a cost of $160 or $20 per individual.

Funds raised will go toward an event taking place on February 19 where about 250 students from several District School Board of Niagara (DSBN) high schools will collaborate and share ideas on how to set examples in their school communities.

“The main purpose of the conference is that students are going to be learning from other students,” said Mackenzie Arts, prime minister of the student council at GFESS and one of the event’s lead organizers.

She said those who attend will hopefully “be inspired by what other students are doing,” and that those who participate will be members of various student councils, student alliances, as well as equity, multicultural, and athletic groups.

“Any students who have a role model position over other students in their school” will be invited, said Arts, adding that seven DSBN secondary schools have confirmed participation, and that two more are expected to take part.

The fundraising goal for the trivia night is that 30 tables will be sold.

Prizes, donations and table reservations can be arranged by contacting teacher Sarah Murdoch at sarah.murdoch@dsbn.org.

Raffle tickets and pizza are included with the reservation of a table.
