Seasonal parking restrictions take effect Friday morning

Local residents will soon have to make extra room in their driveways for vehicles that will be parked at night until the morning.

In a notice on social media, the Town of Fort Erie is reminding people that no overnight winter parking is permitted between 2 and and 7 a.m. from November 1 to March 31 of next year.

The town’s bylaw enforcement officers will begin handing out $40 tickets starting Friday morning.

Vehicles may be towed and have to be recovered at the owner’s expense, the town said.

Fines can be paid online, through mail, or at town hall.

If no action is taken to pay a penalty, it will result in default, and the Ministry of Transportation may deny your Ontario vehicle permit, says the town’s website.

Renewal of existing or the issuance of new Ontario vehicle permits will be granted once payment is made, including all applicable fees.

Also, if a fine is not paid or a request to appeal the fine is not made within 15 calendar days, there are potential administrative fees that will be added, such as a Ministry of Transportation vehicle licence plate record search ($10), a late payment fee ($15), and a ministry licence plate denial ($22), says the town’s website.
