Stevensville woman suffers ‘potentially life-altering’ injuries in crash on QEW

A “very serious” single-vehicle collision on the Queen Elizabeth Way near Sodom Road has left a 64-year-old woman from Stevensville with “potentially life-altering injuries,” says Ontario Provincial Police Sergeant Ted Dongelmans.

The incident occurred Sunday at about 11:30 a.m. when the driver, the lone occupant of the vehicle, was in the Toronto-bound lanes. The vehicle rolled over, crossed the centre median, and ended up in a ditch on the Fort Erie-bound side of the highway.

One Fort Erie-bound lane was closed until it reopened shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday, Dongelmans told Fort Erie Radio.

The woman had to be extricated and was transported to a trauma centre with injuries that “potentially could affect the way they live going forward,” said Dongelmans.

Asked about a cause of the driver crossing the median and whether it’s related to a medical incident, Dongelmans said he did not have information about that but explained the investigation is ongoing.
