One firefighter was taken to hospital in Niagara Falls with minor injuries following a fire in Fort Erie Wednesday evening.
At about 6 p.m., the Fort Erie Fire Department was called to the area of Phyllis and Mary streets.
A large black cloud of smoke could be seen bellowing from the neighbourhood.

A fire started in a shed on Phyllis Street before extending behind it to a garage on Mary Street, training officer Roger Haist told Fort Erie Radio on Thursday morning.
“The homes themselves were not affected by the fire,” he said, noting that nobody was inside either structure at the time of the incident.

An investigator is probing how the fire started.
“At this point, the cause is undetermined,” said Haist.
Asked about hazardous materials in either building, he said that was part of their contents, but nothing more than what the average garage or shed may contain.
No nearby homes in the highly residential area were told to evacuate.
“Everybody was able to remain in place,” said Haist.
Asked if the incident is considered suspicious, Haist said, “Not to my knowledge.”
Haist said he was unable to disclose the nature of the injuries suffered by the local firefighter. He also said a dollar figure related to damage is undetermined.
Firefighters departed the scene about five hours after arriving, he said.
